Album organization -part 7

It's the last day today and I will show you another of Stacy Julian's brilliant ideas that I totally love.

The idea is to use your square punches and punch out faces or other pretty stuff from bigger photos that you don't feel like scrapbooking. I then store these squares in envelopes labeled with the name of the person (I also have a few categories for things). In that way I can still use the pieces of a picture I like. And then if I want to do a layout about someone I have lots of small pictures  all collected and sorted in one place. Before I trow away a photo I always check if I want to square punch something out of it before it goes.

Isn't that a great idea?

Album organization -part 6 (and a sneak peak of what I'm needle felting)

Today I will give you a very quick tour of how I organize my photos before I scrapbook them. This is also Stacy Julian's way.

The first thing I do with my photos after I get them from the photo store or if I get a pile of old photos from my mum is I put them into these ordinary photo

When I want to scrapbook I just flip through my album and find the photos I feel like scrappin' today. When I am done scrapbooking an event I take the photos I have left and throw away or give away the ones I don't want to use. If there are photos I really like left I sort them into my category boxes...  

My category boxes have the same categories and subcategories as my albums (of course thetabs are color coded in the same way to) . So pictures of Isak for instance goes behind that tab and pictures of my nieces playing together goes behind the Together-the nieces and nephew tab. Stacy describes the use of the category boxes so well in her book so I really just want to encourage you to read it.  if you want to know more.

Album organization part 5

Today I will show you the last main category in my library of memories. It is the "the big and the small" album

So this is my library of memories, tomorrow I will show you how I store and sort my photos before I scrapbook them.

Album organization part 4

Today I will guide you through my " The near and the dear" albums. They have three main categories: family, friends and together. They are all labeled with a yellow button

Album organization part 3

Today I will tell you all about my "Here and There" albums. They are divided in to two main categories. All of them are labeled with green buttons

The first category is "Places" This album has a few subcategories but all layouts inside describes places that means something to me.

As you can see all title pages are very simple and the design is kind of the same. I like to keep it like that so I don't have to spend several hours doing title pages.

This second main category is not in Stacy Julian's library but I felt like I really wanted some chronological albums. I chose to put these under the category "Here and there" since I think about it as different places in life (like birthdays, weddings, births, trips, and so much more)  I chose to name this subcategory "milestones"

Since they don't have any subcategories they don't have any title pages. I might add title pages though telling the year of the layouts.

Album organization part 2

Today I will show you the subcategories of my blue " all about us" albums. These albums focuses on my boyfriend, myself and my nieces and my nephew. Basically they are the persons I scrapbook about the most.  

They are all labeled with a blue button and a symbol for the subcategories

Two albums are about my nephew Isak, They are labeled with stars

This is the second album about Isak. I love scrapbooking about him so I'm actually about to start a third album. Since Isak has his own albums he doesn't have a title page

The  heart labeled album is for my nieces. They share an album for now but when it gets full i will just move over one title page and give the girls one album each.

This is the front of my nieces album. They all have a title page each so it's easy to know where I should put the layouts.

Fanny's title page, The journaling describes the joy I felt when she came in to our family and some memories from when I used to babysit.

Emmy's title page, the journaling describes how I found out she was going to be born.

Alexandra's title page. The journaling describes the first year we had together when I met Alexandra every day since we were neighbors.

Clara's title page. The journaling describes how I used to spend one day every week at their house to get some quality Clara time :-) 

The last subcategory in my "All about us" albums are this red album about myself and David

Photo-album organization, part 1

I'm trying out something new at the blog this week. I thought I would do a one week special about how I organize my photo-album. I really hope you will join me and that you will be inspired.

I'm totally inspired by Stacy Julian's library of memories system. You can read all about it in her book Photo freedom. I have adapted the system and renamed some of the categories but the basics are all Stacy's ideas. If you are more interested you can read more on Stacys blog or you can join the Library of memories community at Big picture scrapbooking. I also really recommend listening to her podcast HERE

Just like Stacy I have four main categories in my "library" I mark my albums with colored buttons for the main categories and some albums also have a subcategory marked on the album back. I use American crafts modern D-ring albums. Three of the main categories are in black albums and one is in brown. My four main categories are:

Yellow (brown albums) - the near and the dear - In Swedish: Nära och kära. (Stacy calls this category People)

Green - Here and there - In Swedish: Här och där. (Stacy calls this category places)

Blue - All about us - In Swedish: Allt om oss. (Stacy calls this category Us)

Red - The big things and the small - In Swedish: Det stora och det lilla (Stacy calls this category Things)
